STILL | GROUP EXHIBITION | 18 JUNE – 8 JULY 2020

This is the third of the Everard Read Galleries’ online group exhibitions. The first two re-contextualised earlier works in the face of the pandemic, and this show comprises works primarily created during lockdown, when most artists didn’t have access to their studios, often having to adjust both their working methods and world views. Riffing on the notions of still lifes, still lives and hopefully being still alive, STILL presents a variety of responses to the situation which explore ephemerality, nostalgia, wistfulness, beauty and order as well as chaos and turbulence.

From the epic, explosive works of Ricky Dyaloyi, Blessing Ngobeni and Dylan Lewis, to the more contemplative, serene works of John Meyer and Caryn Scrimgeour – and everything in between – this exhibition is a fascinating snapshot of a moment in time.
